Racing Career and Breeding

Monaassib was trained in Newmarket by Ed Dunlop and raced from three to seven years both at home and in France. He had an amazing racing career, winning £250,000 in his 5 years as a flat racer during which time he was ridden by the likes of Walter Swinburn, Willie Carson and Keiran Fallon. This started with a win in his Maiden at Salisbury beating Lake Coniston. He was a consistent horse and won or was placed on many of his starts. In total he won 11 races, including :

  • The Cammidge Trophy, Doncaster in 1998

  • Prix de Ris-Orangis, Deauville in 1997

  • Benazet Rennen, Baden Baden 1997
  • Scottish Equitable Abernant Stakes, Newmarket 1997

Monaassib was retired at the age of seven when he made his way to the charity

Life after racing

Despite his illustrious career Momo was sadly another one of our rescue cases. After his retirement he had unfortunately ended up in the hands of inexperienced owners who had left him to fend for himself in a field for over 6 years without rugs or any food other than the grass he could find.

When he arrived at the charity he had skin and teeth problems and was extremely emaciated. He was remarkably tolerant of our daily treatments, even having to undergo a full body hair removal to eliminate the dreadful problem of lice in his coat.Never once did he show us any distain or disagreement while we were treating him, he always remained loving and loyal and is still one of the kindest horses you will ever wish to meet. Momo was rehomed as a pleasure horse and remained in that home for 5 ½ years before returning to us.

As long as you aren’t worried about his turn of foot then he is a smashing ride. He, like another permanent resident Deep Space has a love for Cranberry Juice but a severe dislike of donkeys!
